HISTORICAL NOTE

Town Mills was one of seven mills known to be located in Chudleigh and it is thought that a woollen mill existed on the site back in the thirteen hundreds. In the 18th and first part of the 19th century it was a Grain Mill and the Waterwheel which is thought to be the largest working back-shot wheel in England is 20' in diameter and was designed to produce 20 horsepower.
