FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT

In England and Wales, if you’re an employer, owner, landlord or occupier of business or other non-domestic premises including a residential block of flats, you are responsible for the fire safety of the building.

As the responsible person, there are certain things you must do by law under the Fire Safety Order, which is enforced by your local fire and rescue authority. It is imperative that the responsible person ensures that the relevant building complies with the ever changing fire safety standards and this should be achieved by undertaking a regular (recommended annual) Fire Risk Assessment. Failure to comply with current legislation can lead to fines and/or imprisonment in the event of death due to fire. Failure to retain an up to date Fie Risk Assessment file will also compromise building and contents insurance. Whitton and Laing Chartered Surveyors are qualified risk assessors and are able to provide all necessary reports, recommendations as well as being able to appoint and oversee any required improvement works.
